The fig tree is a common Biblical metaphor for Israel. The metaphor is broken because the reason the tree has no fruit is because God made it that way. Jesus is rebuking the tree for being the way God made it which is a metaphor for God rebuking Israel for not doing his work because he made them unable to do his work. Not quite. If you do some research on fig trees you’ll discover that the fruit appears first, before the leaves. That means when you see a tree with leaves on it you should expect it to also to contain fruit, even if it’s not in the right season. In fact the fruit is edible before it’s even ripe. So when Jesus saw from afar that the tree had leaves, he could expect it to also have fruit. When he realized the tree had no figs he knew it was not going to bear any fruit come season neither.
This event took place in the spring right around the time of fig season, when it gets close to sprouting something appears called taksh. These are immature figs. Jesus was simply looking for a sign that the fig tree was fruitful and would produce figs at fig season. The fact that it was fruitless indicated that it was barren and good for nothing and better to be destroyed. Out of season and fruitless is part of the story, part of the metaphor. To claim otherwise is fibbing. Get behind me Satan.

Why curse a tree at all for doing what its creator designed it to do. He used it to symbolize God’s impending judgement against the nation of Israel and also in a sense unfruitful professed Christians. Jews who through sacrifices and ceremonies gave the impression of being religious outwardly but inwardly produced no spiritual fruit. But the tree had no choice in failing and that didn’t make it evil. Goddamned it when he could’ve healed it, and made it fresh again.

It's clear from the Gospels that no one understood Jesus' nature except maybe Peter, although some argue that Peter didn't really comprehend what it meant until the resurrection. Others argue that Mary Magdalene was the first to understand Jesus. And still others say it was the Roman soldier that pierced his side. We know the fig tree is a common metaphor for Israel. The version I first presented, which you repeat here, though common in churches, is obviously wrong. We don't just keep adding conditions to metaphors until they say what we want them to say, not if we are being honest. People do that to deceive. Why is YHWH judging Israel for being the way he created them? Maybe because Jews worship the wrong god.

What does the gardener do when a tree doesn’t bear fruit? He’ll cut it down because it cumbers the ground. Jesus used the fig tree as a metaphor for the nation of Israel and professed Christians to teach God’s justice on sinners who act religious but don’t bring forth the expected spiritual fruits that God is expecting.

The gardener does not curse the dead tree for spending its lifecycle. How many years of fruit did it bear that it should meet its fated demised being cursed by its creator?

He gave us all free will to choose how we conduct ourselves.

Curse it or cut it down, the point is what good is a fig tree that doesn’t bear figs? Jesus cursing the fig tree was his way of saying that the whole nation of Israel had become spiritually barren in the eyes of God. They were acting religious with their sacrifices and ceremonies and saying the right words but their hearts were far from God. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Otherwise, Christianity would not last to this very day. None that any other non-Christian body can and has produced. You are not exceptional or better people in any way. That you think you are, is what continues to damn the Church.
