I am not demanding relief, just commiserating.
It mostly centers around multi-level quote replies in a thread if you want to pair down the words just to the relevant sections of the last post instead of having two-and-a-half screens worth of repeated thread history in your reply. The hybridized sort of markup is full of inviso-text that you don't see until you create the post, then is astoundingly resistant to corrective action.
Love the board, glad it's here, love the admin, I just needed to vent.

One method is to just quote what you want then tag the person to alert them.

I am to blame for the fact that I have an "I'm gonna make this goddam thing work" mentality that pushes me away from that. I just love the *convenience* of the quote button, and the coolness of the embedded avatars and timestamps, so by-god this technology must submit to my will. Pathetic, I know. |

All right, that works. Thanks. I am loath to admit how long that took me to figure out, though. The instructions are quite clear, but I kept tripping up on things like "reply box" looking for the Reply button, or "quote tab" looking for the Quote button. 53 doesn't feel that old, but I guess it is. |

Flying Monkeys, PS - This will probably seem like a weird question, but you weren't messing with my head and interfering with my Quote tab use, were you Monk? After I proclaimed mastery of the function, something very strange started happening when I used it. I mean VERY strange.

After I proclaimed mastery of the function, something very strange started happening when I used it. I mean VERY strange. No, I wasn't messing. It is a bit flakey sometimes, however. I have noticed that sometimes when you highlight text, the Quote Selection option doesn't appear on the menu, you have to exit the thread, come back in and try again. Also, on the Quotes tab, when you are trying to click the floating menu to Insert the quote, sometimes you can't hover over it - it keeps drifting ahead of your mouse. Again, exit and come back in usually fixes it. |

Anyway, I'm glad you showed me the function. Will be using it a lot. |

It's a pain in the butt. And depending on what you're using to browse, you end up with 4 replies, but they all have six imbedded pictures of what was posted before. It's such a waste of space, and it makes it so there's way too much scrolling, too time consuming.
And I'll often just reply, and if the person is staying on top of the thread, they'll see it. If they don't, then pppfftt, so what. I'm not going to sit there sifting through pages of repeat pictures over and over just to quote someone.

Not next to "Post Quick Reply", though. Seems to be an extra add-on, or something; I've noticed some other Proboards forums have it. |
