So it seems. The French artist Paul Gaugin spent a lot of time there - probably explains why.

So it seems. The French artist Paul Gaugin spent a lot of time there - probably explains why. The issue of time zones came up and which country has the most. These nimrods were insisting France has the most time zones of any country because they included French colonial territories like French Polynesia. Of course they linked sites which corroborated the lie.
I say balderdash. Tahiti is not in France.

I say balderdash. Tahiti is not in France. It is part of the French Republic though. BTW, I think they are wrong about the time zones as Tahiti would only add 1 time zone to France's lot. Sounds like they are assuming France has the whole range from France to Tahiti, which it doesn't. Got to be Russia for that one - 11 time zones, I believe.

I refuse to believe this. There's any number of things that you refuse to believe. Maybe this'll help clear it up.

Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands aren't connected to the US. You can refuse to believe that they're part of the US if you like.

You can refuse to believe that they're part of the US if you like. The French call it an overseas collective (collectivité d'outre-mer). So even the French admit it's overseas and not really part of France. It also has limited self autonomy, which means it's a semi-independent.
Alaska and Hawaii are fully part of the U.S. They are not semi-independent. <<< [French guy in a sombrero]

France in Europe is Metropolitan France. That includes Corsica even though there's water in between them. You know, kind of like China and Formosa......I mean Taiwan. AFAIK France is the only colonial power to ever do this. They didn't all operate the same way. The Dutch had a separate native army for the East Indies, but maybe they had to because their own army wasn't big enough. The Japanese called their empire a co-prosperity sphere, but it was an empire.
