always been beyond my understanding why people would rather cook themselves on a foreign beach rather than explore the beauties of the British Isles. Such a stunning country to be discovered.

Two very different types of people - explorers and relaxers. Actually used to be one of my first date questions as the type of holiday a potential partner liked was very important to me.

My oldest chum, (currently suffering with his wife from Covid) had a few weeks walking in the Peak District a few months back, it pissed down most of the time and they loved every minute of it.

I love UK landscapes, especially Scotland. They radiate such silence and calm. Used to spend a lot of time in Scotland - fantastic scenery and real remoteness in the far north.

Even the busy parts are not that busy because it's not really a touristy destination - it's very much for outdoors people and they seem to blend in. Plus, hardly anyone ever ventures north of Loch Ness - that's mostly territory for fishermen.

My mother has a house in Bodrum, #1 Turkish tourist location (many Brits, our neighbors are in fact British). It's so busy that it feels like Sodom and Gomorrha. She doesn't get why I never go there.
