I can't see that site because we are still have some EU laws in place. Stupid EU - I wanted to see it! Oh, that’s retarded! Well, allow me to break the law by posting it: Ta. (I don't think that's him.)

The American First Amendment prevents much of the censorship you guys must deal with it.
Why would that story be in violation of any law?

It's not to do with free speech - it's to do with data protection. The EU has strong data protection laws and if a website wants to be present in the EU, it must adhere to those laws. If they haven't made their site compliant, they don't show their site, otherwise they will be fined and/or shut down (in the EU). The EU also has laws that cold-calling without legitimate reason (which does not include 'to sell you stuff') is illegal. It's a bugger for sales people but great for consumers.

Maybe it's bullshit now but you never know. It could be something you do want to see eventually.

Yes, maybe. I'll do it if/when I feel the need. Right now, I really don't care. Anyway, the excellent Tories, of whom you are a big fan, are winding back a load of EU legislation and data protection is part of it. I'm sure they'll be selling our soles to the highest bidder (given how much they do it with their own). Now, I'm putting Adam and The Ants on. You? Goody two Goody two Goody goody two shoes You don't drink, don't smoke, what do you do?....

However, it's government interference in the internet which we have don't have in the U.S. Such a law would be precluded in the U.S. due to our First Amendment. If a company decides to protect its data, that's its right. If the government requires it, that's a prohibition on free speech.

Nothing to do with free speech, solely to do with consumer protection.

The U.S. and the U.K. don't have this law and we're doing just fine.
