I just watched 'Gospel According to Matthew' recently and it's great. It was on the The Vatican Film List. So is 'Andrei Rublev', another fantastic movie (If you can handle the animal cruelty parts). Gospel According to Matthew was made by Pier Paolo Pasolini, who was an openly homosexual movie director who also made the infamous movie 'Salo: 120 Days of Sodom' based on the book by Marquis De Sade. The fact the Vatican would include a movie by such a controversial director tells you how well made the movie is. I bought a cheap copy on Amazon, but it's on youtube too.

I liked The Last Temptation of Christ. Read the book (The Last Temptation) by Nikos Kazantzakis as well - it's a really deep thinker.

Wings Of Desire....Wim Wenders. Oh yeah! I watched that movie a few years ago, rented it from the library. Thought it was great that Nick Cave and Columbo were both in the same movie (I love both of them). It was beautiful, I'll have to watch it again.

There should be more trick endings in Bible movies. Like, let Jesus beat the cross this time.

The church hated it because it posited that the foundational act upon which 1500 years of the church's existence relies did not happen.

Begotten is also well worth a watch for something "completely different". www.imdb.com/title/tt0101420/Tough to find, but if you search the web you should be able to find a download somewhere.
