One of my few regrets in life is having no musical talent. I love music from many different genres, but I simply have no skills in the actual creation of it. At least not that I'm aware of. I don't have any talent either. But I am not letting that bother me. Learning about music, music genres and musicians life require no talent. You have to do it. You can listen to Bach, for example. But you get so much out of it by just trying to learn to play it. At least, if you are interested in music. I would recommend that to anybody. Do you think I will be Lang Lang? No. But I can know about music. {Spoiler} You wouldn't believe how much your pseudo intellectual lawyer friends will admire you for that kind of shit. I'm happy learning about and listening to the various genres of music I enjoy. I'm pretty sure if I tried to learn an instrument or practise singing, my neighbours would be perfectly within their rights to report me to the authorities for crimes against humanity. I don't have any friends who are lawyers... does anyone?

I didn't. Mozart wrote about Europeans being taken slaves by Turks. That is not what he wrote. I think you need a doctor. So Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail doesn’t concern a tale of slavery by Ottomans? Who is right? Ayatollah or Jill?

You do know that the leading character has his wife's name, Constanze, whom Mozart married against the will of her father. Furthermore, some parts of that opera would actually not be acceptable by today's standards because of its racist clichés. I shall not start to talk with you about the theatrical history of this piece and other pieces who could not be staged and performed. You lack the sophistication. Of course, you have nothing to say about classical music, which your personality in a nutshell. Managing to turn a thread about classical thread into a thread about racism and you, as usual, are at the frontline when it comes to racism. Pistachiobrain.

Flying Monkeys, Why do you not like classical music? It's what this thread is actually about.

I think a lot of people dislike it because most people are "followers", they feel a need to go along with what others do.
If they lived in 1790s Vienna they'd have been a huge Salieri fan.

I was listening to centuries old music and heard the story. I wanted to learn about it.

My problem is that people are not as open-minded as I am. But then, I am multi-cultural and multi-lingual. You only know the US. Anyway, you are going on ignore for the next week. I've had it with you.

I do. However I prefer their early albums Baroque and Renaissance European music. Also as I get older I often feel like simpler and heavier stuff. Less complex emotions but more drive. Or something...

"After a lively overture Belmonte enters, looking for his betrothed, Konstanze, who, with her English servant, Blonde, has fallen into the hands of pirates and been sold to Pasha Selim (Aria: "Hier soll ich dich denn sehen" – "Here surely I must find her")." From Wikipedia, there is slavery in it

ayatollah , @papalegba , You abused Mozart long enough. You two stay away from Beethoven. With "race" Schiller means all humans, not whites. You best stick to Wagner. Urgh. I didnt abuse Mozart. Just was curious about slavery. Contrary to popular belief-slavery happened everywhere. Anyone know the story of Spartacus? Also Africans had taken white slaves too. It was the norm in world history
