Four prisoners are facing the same direction. They are each wearing a hat. They know that there are two black hats and two white hats. They can't turn around, only face forward. They cannot take off the hat. Only when they know for absolute certain the colour of the hat they are wearing can they shout it out. If they are right, they get their freedom. If they are wrong, they die. Which man shouts first?

1 has a 50% chance of being right if he says either colour. 2 has a 67% chance of being right if he says white. 3 has a 50% chance of being right if he says either colour. 4 has a 50% chance of being right if he says either colour.

So that's your answer? That 1 has 50% chance of being right... four times?

Whichever one takes his damn hat off and looks at the colour. Not allowed, obviously.

Man Number 2.
He knows that man number 1 (behind him) can see two hats. If they were both black then man number 1 would surely know he must be wearing a white hat and he would shout out. Since man number 1 hasn't shouted out, man number 2 can logically deduce that his hat must be a different colour to that of man number 3.
