And by "monarch" of course I include emperors, maharajahs, shahs and any hereditary ruler whose power comes through "divine right".
My favorite is Emperor Elagabalus of Rome.
He was the teenage cross dressing bisexual ruler of Rome who prostituted himself on the street for lulz.

I had this in an interview as part of a school entrance exam when I was 8.
My answer was Henry the Eighth, because he had so many wives.

The biggest power in Europe at the time was The Holy Roman Empire and the current Emperor at the time was the nephew of Catherine of Aragon (which also made him Henry’s nephew). Emperor Charles was so powerful at the time he had the pope locked up when Henry really needed him to say “Yes”. By breaking away from the Vatican he was also putting a wall between England and Europe which is why this gets mentioned as an earlier version of Brexit. Oh and he was a driving force in the creation of The Royal Navy. That branch of our military becomes more important later on.

Okay, but what was Henry VIII's main motive for leaving the Catholic Church? I've always been told it was because he wanted to divorce his wife.
Or was it more a geopolitical move like Brexit to separate from continental Europe?
And the founding of the Anglican Church was part of the Protestant Reformation, was it not?

I think if Catherine had given him a son we'd all be talking Catholic.

He could fuck Anne Boleyn, her sister, and any number of women just by telling them to. But he needed a male heir as he was afraid the War of the Roses would start up again if he didn’t leave one. Little did he know his red headed daughter was 10 times smarter than him. However, Henry changed his church little from the RC, except for raiding the monasteries…lots of money made then. It went further Protestant under Edward, then real Protestant under James VI/I.

I don’t really have enough interest to have a favourite but from a personal perspective if I had to choose one I’d choose The Stammer King.

Genghis Khan. Killing people isn't very nice, but if you're going to do it, do it with verve and élan. The towers of skulls were a particularly nice touch.

I don't know about favorite, but if I were choosing one to accept a dinner invitation, I'd go with Louis XIV. Unmatched palace and cuisine.
