Revolutions in art are nothing new, but this one, some think, may be terminal. "Art is dead Dude", Jason M Allen told the New York Times. Mr Allen is the winner of the Colorado State Art Fair's competition in the category of "emerging digital artists". His winning entry "Théâtre D'opéra Spatial" was made using Midjourney, an artificial intelligence system that enables images to be created simply by inputting a few text prompts - for example "an astronaut riding a horse". Many artists were furious, but Mr Allen was unmoved: "It's over. A.I. won. Humans lost", he told the paper. Mr Allen earned just $300 (£262) from the contest, but the news struck a tender nerve. Some artists were already fearful that a new breed of AI image generator could take their jobs, and take a free ride on the years spent learning their craft. "This thing wants our jobs, it's actively anti-artist", wrote California-based movie and game concept artist RJ Palmer in a Tweet liked more than 25,000 times. Art is one of concepts that can be applied to anything. I usually never question if something is or isn’t art if it is presented as such. That does not mean the art is any good, has meaning or worth, but even the most banal subject can be art.

There’s that time when an artist ate a banana taped to the wall but that didn’t destroy the art, it just destroyed an object attached to the art. The art is actually the idea and the (very expensive) certificate that people paid for.

People paying millions for it…not talking about purchasing the “old masters“ per se…but like the people who will pay for “banana art.” Duchamp like his fellow Dadaists played off of this before it became chic to collect “art.” There’s a really good series from the BBC, that I can’t remember the name of, where the hosts try to authenticate rummage sell art fines and the issues dealing with the art “experts” who can declare something authentic or not by fiat almost.

To go full circle I recently listened to a radio doc about how work by female artists is valued less than work by male artists. As a test AI created artworks were signed with either male or female names and the works with male signatures were given a higher value by art galleries.

Yeah this is troubling. I mean Bruce Willis just sold his rights to a deepfake company as he is leaving the industry on the account of his speech deterioration issue
Sooner or later the rich will just move to a space station orbiting the Earth like in Elysium so they dont have to deal with the fighting animals/undesirables on the ground
