As I understand it, the group of death is that group where the top two teams are so far in front of the others that the group stage doesn't need to play out.
Group A? No, Senegal might be #2 but just barely.
Group B? With the USA it could be if England weren't so lacklustre and their wins look to be as much about prayer as skill.
Group C? Argentina and Mexico look unbeatable.
Oops, Saudi Arabia upset that applecart.
Group D? France is unbeatable but the rest are all in the mix.
Group E? like Group C, we have two hot teams in Germany and Spain but Germany was shot down by the tournaments most under rated team Japan.
Group F? Belgium looked good before the tournament but the other three teams look reasonably well matched. On paper Canada might be weakest but are playing well.
Group G? Here's a contender for the Group of Death. It is hard to see any than Brazil and Switzerland progressing.
Group H? Ghana is outweighed by all the other teams here.

Group E was the only one that came near being that pre-tournament, but look how it worked out!

My understanding is that a group of the death is a group where that's has at least three teams that are considered strong and will usually leave one of the stronger teams behind.
For example: Group B of Euro 2012 had Germany, Portugal, Netherlands and Denmark. All four teams were in top 10 FIFA ranking.
