Not bad: Good to see you supporting climate change initiatives Heeey. Deniers and conservatives must be spewing at the success of EVs like the Prius. Also good to see you have come in from the dark side.

Flying Monkeys (Flying/Monkeys, Hairynosedwombat, I don't believe EVs are about saving the environment. I believe they are about government control. I wouldn't buy one. I don't understand how the government expects people to buy EVs when they're struggling with the high gas prices as it is.

EV's are just the next step in cars, not for me at the moment as I don't think the infrastructure is good enough now but it's just a matter of time. Perhaps horse and carriage owners thought it was anti horse Government elites that destroyed their business and replaced them with those damned new fangled automobiles.

Taking the counter-argument, no-one is stopping you from taking a horse and carriage on the road these days whereas soon they will be stopping you taking a petrol car on the road. That absolutely is government control. The reason I gave the eye-roll above was because the FREEDUM bunch think of all government control as a bad thing, which it very much isn't because, coming back to the side of the argument I really lie on, when a government is faced with citizens who behave so irresponsibly and flatly refuse to do anything about their highly damaging ways, they have to impose control otherwise we are all sunk. It really is not acceptable that those most responsible take the least responsibility. Such people need to be controlled.

IMO rhere are more steps society must take for transport to fully realise a renewables future. For example e-scooters and e-bikes surely could transform cities, removing the blight of the suburb. In Australia there is a specific issue of distance that makes the practicality of an e-future difficult. Liquid fuels, due to their energy density will still be necessary, which is where hydrogen becomes useful.

Well, Government control is acceptable to an extent when it is a financial reason, is it not? We enforce car seat belts because it helps keep NHS costs down and this would be argued to keep climate change costs down. There will need to be a workable infrastructure in place though and I can't see us making the 2030 deadline in the UK, will be lucky to make 1940.

They're not for me either, same reasons, but when cost and convenience makes sense I'd be happy to have an electric car. When gas powered cars overtook horses though I don't think there was mountains of propaganda about how harmful horses were and nobody was talking about how people needed to be forced into doing "the right thing". I've read that quite a few times before, how we need to "encourage" and "force" and "leave no choice", and when dipshits say things like that naturally a lot of people will start to think the worst.

One of the main reasons people were encouraged to switch to cars was because, e.g. in New York, the streets were ankle deep in horse shit. So yeah.
