But will it be a sequel to Covenant? Unsure. But Ridley Scott is producing it so maybe. But I doubt it. I’d prefer if Ridley was directing it. avp.fandom.com/wiki/Alien:_RomulusIf Michael Fassbender is cast then it will likely be a Covenant sequel. Plus isn’t Romulus the first king of Rome? David the android was set up to be king at the end of Covenant.

I think the Alien franchise, where controlled by Scott, got lost once it started exploring its own origins and lore and dove forehead-deep into existentialism. The original Alien is a very concise and simple film. Blue-collar space truckers get screwed over by their corporate overlords and have to escape a murderous rape-monster. Nobody gives a shit where the Aliens came from because it doesn't matter; we just know they're very bad news. Nobody gives a shit about the internal considerations of Weyland-Yutani; they're just there to represent massive corporations that don't care about their workers' lives. Nobody gives a shit about why there's an android there and what synthetic humans mean for humanity; it's there just because it's the future. It could be fun to speculate on the world outside the events on the Nostromo but it's less fun to start getting answers, especially when those answers are only designed to create more mysteries and questions about that world, each more underwhelming than the last. I'd rather watch Lost again. Alien was never a philosophical exercise within a complex world but that's what Ridley Scott wants to make it (after the fact). To that, I'd ask: Why? Who cares? Who is it for?

Alien needs to stick to the 'lost in very deep space' theme where the loneliness alone is scary enough, never mind the alien thing after you. All of the films since have been too close to home, too comfortable, to much like a human world. The planet in Alien was a genuinely different world and really creepy - more of that, please. Anyway, loads more info here: www.imdb.com/title/tt18412256/

I’m guessing that means it will have a moderate budget and be a standalone film. I reckon it might just be one Alien against a crew.

Yeah, it’s meant to be a sequel to Covenant.
There’s also a series in the works from one of the guys behind the Fargo series. I think the pilot episode has been completed so we just have to wait and see if it’s good enough to get approved.

He went down a dark and even deranged route with the sequel.

I like to think that the race that was genocided weren’t Engineers. It starts to get convoluted, when the origins are attempted to spin life back into a film franchise, and can take on anything since it is all fantasy to begin with. There is no absolute, only a manner of delivery of the ideas and story. Scott appeared to be exploiting his own film, both narrative wise and horror wise. The original Alien -'79 gave us a visionary representation of life in outer-space in the future and how corporate greed and power saw its crew as expendable. Aliens - '86, extended on this in a clever, fresh and exciting fashion. Alien 3 - '92 lost its way a tad, due to the amount of time elapsed from Aliens and loved characters were killed off. The gruesome Alien Resurrection - '97 made more sense, due to the DNA cloning, and was way better than Covenant.

I liked Fede Alvarez’ style a lot in Don’t Breathe. He could make a really good movie with this.

I liked the original concept of Humans being nosey and exploring an ancient derelict space ship and stumbling onto some ancient alien horror from god knows where, from god knows what time in the past.
Honestly, that's the way I would have done the Alien franchise and left it at that. Humans exploring space, stumbling onto some god forsaken tomb with a "curse" and greedy shit heel corporations who don't care about the numbers, they just want the alien tech or the lifeforms to make more money by screwing over other Humans.
I didn't need a prequel about everything on Earth being created by thong wearing 10 foot tall boxer brief models and now they wanna kill us all with rapey gender ambiguous penis monsters because they are mad at us for killing baby space Jesus or whatever the fuck as some zip line instructors and soccer hooligans run around, getting killed by mutating pen ink.
