True story about the undercover police operation to obtain a confession from a child killer.
It was an elaborate operation in which a fictitious criminal organisation was created to gain the killer’s trust.
This was excellent filmmaking. It had a chilling atmosphere and a compelling story structure. My only issue is that they focussed a little too much on one undercover cop’s real life struggles in coping with such a gruesome task. The message is clear and also a little too obvious. Less of that would have been just as affective.
Sean Harris was excellent. Joel Edgerton was fine and the other actors (mostly undercover cops) seemed very authentic.
8.5/10
Here’s real footage of his confession to what he thought was his mafia boss:
There is a book about this case that I hope to track down.
