Fair concern on behalf of the wrongly accused but unlike the death penalty, chemical castration is reversible in all but rare cases.

Well, you support imprisoning people who were convicted of crimes, right? That's not 100% either. If you've seen stories of people who were wrongfully convicted for decades, it's clear their time in prison changed them. They can't go back to who they were before. They were robbed permanently of a huge chunk of their life; both in time served and in readjustment to the outside world. That's the risk inherent with incarceration. You're not going to get 100% guilty people and when you're wrong, they get damaged. A similar risk is taken with chemical castration. In those rare cases where an innocent man doesn't get his libido back and that negatively impacts his life, I'd say paid damages by the state are warranted.

Never heard of it being done as part of the sentence, I thought it was used by consent of the prisoner as part of conditions for parole.

In some ways losing your sex drive can be seen as an advantage.
More time for committing other crimes.

It's not really "by consent" if you have to do it to be released. Everyone who wants to get early release has to agree to certain terms, otherwise you can stay in prison until your full sentence is served.

In some ways losing your sex drive can be seen as an advantage. More time for committing other crimes. :) When the jazz singer George Melly was on BBC Radio “Quote … Unquote” in 1989 he quoted a 'Greek philosopher' who, on being asked if he was upset at losing his sexual appetite, replied: 'Upset, certainly not. It's like being unchained from a lunatic.

No punishment is reversible, so are you saying no punishments? You can let people out of prison, or reimburse a fine. How do you give them their time back? Or give them their time back if they had had the amount of the fine? You just can't. You can compensate, but not reverse.

I've had the 3 part biography sitting on my shelf for yonks, will have to get around to reading it.

Louisiana, Goddamn! That’s cruel and unusual punishment. Why not castrate the motherfucker and get it over with. This will be struck down, surely.
Anyway, this is really a big sin in Christianity, proving yet again Christians are hardly Christian.
