Needed a bit more than falling into a World T20 semi final, in which the team were thrashed, to recover from the train wreck ODI World Cup campaign.

Shamar Joseph strikes again! 5 fer at his home ground (he's Guyanese isn't he?)to roll South Africa for 160. Mikyle out early in replay as Windies move to 1-16 in reply.

De Silva saves Sri Lanka with 74 on Day One at Old Trafford...sort of. Lanka still rolled for 236 with England 0-22 in response. With Smith batting 6 England gave got the balance wrong IMO and wouldn't want to lose early wickets.
Only 41 overs possible in Rawalpindi. Pakistan 4-158 v Bangladesh. Babar with a second ball duck. Ayub with 56.

Jamie Smith with his maiden hundred as England take control in Manchester but with rain predicted, Chandimal returning after retiring hurt to bat with Mendis, and balls keeping low on Day One an 80 run lead with 4 wickets in hand could be a dangerous one.

Chandimal and Mendis put on 117 to set England 207. England win by 5 wickets. Pretty good game all things considered.
But now, the real fun is going down in Rawalpindi where Bangladesh are about to beat Pakistan in a test match. One of those 4 day stale mates where the team batting 3rd collapsed catastrophically (146 all out in this case. Hasan with 3 wickets, Hassan with 4). Bangladesh are 0-10 and just 20 runs from victory.

I see there is drama once again regarding a ball change in England’s favour. Apparently, a ball was doing absolutely nothing on a flat deck then a ball from the box starts hooping all over the shop.
This is something the ICC really has to get on top of, and quickly.
There is a strong argument now that a ball change has altered the outcome of 2 tests now…

When I went to bed it was a couple of hours after the ball change and Australia looked like winning in a doddle. They lost 4-11, 2 of which to Moeen Ali's straight turners. Fact is that they didn't respect Ali throughout the series and lost key wickets to him frequently. In this case Sri Lanka, who have 6 batters, lost 2 wickets in the first over of their second innings and were always going to collapse late. So Angelo's basically saying that the ball was doing nothing, got changed at 4-170 odd and they lost a couple of wickets close together ahead of a partnership of 117. That was the impact on the game. Don't see why the ICC would be worried about that.

I didn’t see the SL one, but I definitely saw the one vs Australia and it was noticeable before it was even bowled that the new one was much newer and had a much better seam on it…..the law clearly states that the ball should have “wear comparable to that which the previous ball received”. It almost contravenes that law….

Sri Lanka blow a huge chance against England at Lords' reducing the home team, with Woakes at 7, to 6-206 but then Gus Atkinson (74no) and Joe Root (143) took the game away with a century partnership. England finish at 7-358. Should be plenty.

Joe Root’s 33rd ton. Same as Cook.

Atkinson brings up his hundred. A bit 9f history here. It's his second test at Lords' and he's now on both honour boards so unless a Botham or Stokes scored a hundred and a 5 fer on debut there he'd be the quickest (or equal quickest) to do that. What says Andy Zaltzman?
