I had two aunts who worked for General Mills for years. They got cases and cases of Cheerios that they gave to the whole family.
I hate Cheerios. Hate the taste, hate the smell. This whole city smells like Cheerios at times

Back in olden days Nabisco made Shredded Wheat and tours of the plant were available. After the tour came a trip to the cafeteria and free bowls of Shredded Wheat and fresh blueberries. My brother ...then just a wee lad... set up a howl because he wanted his WHEATIES* ! *A General Mills Product.

Look at all of these goodies: No wonder yanks are so unhealthy & obese! You’d never see that wide a selection here. We probably have half a dozen sugary types available and that’s it.

I don't have a problem with the sweet cereals. But when I do eat them--which certainly isn't every day--it will be for dessert, not breakfast. Ever had Count Chocula on ice cream? Yum! (Of course, I don't consume dairy products, so the "ice cream" will be plant-based.)
For "serious" GM cereal, I suppose I'd go with Wheat Chex, although I liked them better when they were manufactured by Ralston. And I'm sorry, The Good Man, but I do like some varieties of Cheerios--especially Multi-Grain and Blueberry. Given what you went through, however, I don't blame you in the least for hating Cheerios.
Now for dessert--if restricted to General Mills--I would pick Golden Grahams, particularly half-drowned in Chocolate Almond Breeze. [Insert drooling emoji here]

This whole city smells like Cheerios at times My mom got that for me along with the other more health cereals. (Trix and Fruit Loops was a rare treat.) So I would have to add a ton of sugar so it didn't taste like cardboard.

That makes me wonder what ingredients they used back then. Were they more natural maybe before this artificial crud was invented?

I believe this was my favorite junk-food cereal when I was a kid, courtesy of General Mills.

Cookie Crisp and Lucky Charms are my favorite General Mills cereals. I have some in my pantry at the moment.
