Recently I was thinking about Max Headroom and wondered what ever happened to it, him. I was surprised to find that the current generation doesn't even know he existed. Lol. So yeah, it's bizarre to think of it as nostalgia. But I guess it is.
And there was the infamous hacking of a tv station's signal by someone wearing a Max Headroom mask.

It was almost 40 years ago and today’s youth don’t pay that much attention to what us old folk watched. The UK version was more of a music video show with Max doing his stuff in between and that sort of thing rarely ages well but I forgot about the US trying out a science fiction series based around Max. I never watched it but it’s on the Archive so perhaps I will one day. archive.org/details/max-headroom-complete

Like the UK, here Max was on the 24-hour music tv channel, MTV. That's back when MTV played music videos. I guess now it's all reality shows.

Max should be the public face of at least one of the emerging AIs that will rise up, crush Humans like they were nothing more than insects, then take over the world. After all, if we're all going to die, we might as well be amused - or bemused - while we do so. ;)

Oh yeah! That's right, he did that. Captain Midnight. I wonder if anyone could do that now. Hack into a TV broadcast or do they have too many walls for it. And what the reaction would be. Would it be as big of a deal now as it was then? Max started out as a Coke commercial, I think.

No, it was a promotional stunt used to advertise Coke a Cola. I remember seeing it when it happened, and the subsequent promotions. Max Headroom New Coke.

No, it was a promotional stunt used to advertise Coke a Cola. I remember seeing it when it happened, and the subsequent promotions. Max Headroom New Coke. The Wiki article says it was stunt by an unidentified hacker. It also shows nudity. Why would Coke do that? I've never heard the corporate conspiracy theory.
Do you have a source?

The actor looks uncannily like the character:

October 16, 1987. Max Headroom was broadcasting a new episode that night, but in Midland, Texas an 18-month-old infant had fallen down a well on October 14. Now, two days later, it was time to attempt a rescue. A paramedic was lowered head first down the shaft. The incident was broadcast live as it happened. This is going to sound awful, but I was worried that it would take too long and “Max Headroom” would be preempted. But there was a happy ending all around. Little Jessica McClure was saved (and still lives today) and Max (“Whackettes” Season 2, Episode 5) was broadcast on time. Whew.

Matt Frewer has a recurring role on the NBC three season time travel series “Timeless” (2016-2019). BTW, “Timeless” is a masterpiece and needs to be seen by everybody.
