Description of leaked footage:
The trailer showed Kraven facing-off against a caravan of poachers, who he makes quick - and very violent - work of. We also got a glimpse of Russell Crowe as the Russian father of Taylor-Johnson’s Sergei Kravinoff, and right at the end, it's revealed that a new take on Spider-Man villain the Rhino will be introduced in the movie.
Alessandro Nivola (The Many Saints of Newark) is playing the character, though all we see of him in Rhino mode is the skin on his arm starting to transform into thick hide as he says, "don't you want to know why they call me the Rhino?"

So he’s got super powers? He’s Dr Doolittle?

So he’s got super powers? He’s Dr Doolittle? I was thinking more like Morbius. Except rated R.

Is Kraven still a hunter? Of animals? He seems to talk to them or control them but does he hunt them? His vest doesn’t appear to be a lion’s face either. Are they trying to erase his hunter identity? That’s why he originally attacked Spider-Man, right? Now he seems to have a problem with spiders due to an incident with them.

This is how ATJ described Kraven in an interview a while back: "...He’s just a hunter, a human with conviction. An animal lover and a protector of the natural world. He’s a very, very cool character." That description is very contradictory unless they meant that he's a hunter that's less ruthless like they seem to be making his father (played by Crowe) out to be in the trailer. But then he seems downright psychotic when dispatching his enemies.

If he was a villain in a Spider-Man film they would make him a hunter. But they were probably scared of the backlash from slacktivist snowflakes from having a lead character who is a hunter. It’s really absurd that Sony is milking what few characters they own for all they’re worth. Madame Web? Bizarre.

I don't begrudge Sony for trying to make their own cinematic universe. But it seems unwieldy to attach it to Spider-Man. Honestly, I think Sony should had made Venom the central focus of whatever universe this is supposed to take place in. Just make him the lead character, call him 'Lethal Protector' or whatever, and let him be a more ruthless crimefighter than compared with Peter Parker. This leads to all the other villains team up to make the Sinister Six because they don't want their heads bitten off.

sdrew13163 I just don’t think he’s that good of an actor, so I’m irritated whenever he gets a big role like this or consideration for a different one like with James Bond. Probably a decent person off-camera, but I think he’s mostly forgettable. The one exception which I actually said “holy shit ATJ showed up today to work” was in Noturnal Animals. And he’s playing a murderous psychotic rapist.
