All other ministers and reverends in all other churches and religions can and do. So why not priests and nuns? They could still not do premarital sex, get married and then boff. Why does the Catholic Church think of them getting married is a sin? And I dunno how a priest or nun can stand it going through all those years without sex. A priest performs the wedding ceremony. Sometimes he must feel some envy. No, nuns in all other religions cannot either. Neither can monks. That said, in regards to women who dedicate their lives to serving God & His Church in Catholic & Orthodox Christianity. Women who choose to remain cloistered are nuns. Women who work outside in the world are religious sisters. Just as priests work outside in the world & monks are the ones that are cloistered, so too the religious sisters work in the world, & nuns are cloistered. I didn’t know until recently that a Friar is a Monk who works outside the monastery. Podcast episodes about Robin Hood can be useful at times.

Yeah, I never knew that either until I started reading more about Thomas Merton, and frequently ran across instances of his name being prefixed by 'Fr'. At first I thought it was an abbreviation for Father, but I'd never read he was an ordained priest, only a monk. In those pre-internet days, it took a little searching to find out it meant Friar and just what a friar is. I'm not fond of organized religion, but it's still kind of fascinating to delve into the intricacies of CC hierarchies.

I’ve just tried looking this up and it’s too complicated for my little head.
