Sometimes being paid less has its advantages. Men tend to stay in the one job for a long time, climbing up the ladder. Whereas women go in and out of jobs as they have children or move with their husbands job promotions. They are perpetually in the lower paid entry level jobs. Eventually a man will reach a job level with high pay but his enthusiasm, skills, energy doesn't rate the pay. A favourite way for an employer to save money is the fire the older higher paid staff and promote younger people with more incentive to show the boss how well they can work.
