Finding Forrester 2000 directed by Gus van Sandt. Because of scoring exceptionally high on a statewide standardized exam, and being an exceptionally good basketball player, Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown) is sent to a prestigious prep school in Manhattan. He soon befriends the reclusive writer, William Forrester (Sean Connery) who also becomes his mentor, since he promised to not tell anyone who he is. Any movie that tells a story about the value of education and reading books is always interesting, plus it has Sean Connery in one of his last acting roles. The movie is a bit too long and could have had a little more edge to it's story, but still a worthwhile movie to watch.

The One That Got Away 1957 directed by Roy Ward Baker. Based on the true story of Oberleutnant Franz von Werra (Hardy Krüger), the only German prisoner of war to escape from imprisonment in Britain during the Second World War. Well Britain and Britain, he successfully escaped while being transported by train in Canada to make it over the border to the still neutral U.S.A. He attempted to escape several times when he was a POW in Britain, deemed too dangerous to stay in Britain he was shipped to a prison camp in Canada. Interesting and well made movie that takes a neutral stand, it was every POW's duty to try to escape. Hardy Krüger has the right kind of charisma that makes us viewers nearly wish that he would succeed. Krüger became something of an idol in Britain too thanks to this movie. Unusual for a movie like this, I don't think there was a single weapon fired.

Once Upon a Honeymoon, 1942, dir. Leo McCarey. I was expecting to love this, and I didn’t. I didn’t hate it either—it’s got Cary Grant, Ginger Rogers ( at her loveliest, I should note), and plenty of McCarey’s wonderful improvisational comedy touches—but it doesn’t mix comedy and ’round-the-flag rallying as smoothly as McCarey intended. That’s also reflected in the title, which suggests a light romantic comedy for a film that turns halfway through into a serious story about Nazi oppression. That unsuccessful mix particularly harms the film in light of the same year’s To Be or Not to Be, which does, somehow, successfully mix comedy and anti-Nazi drama. Once Upon a Honeymoon is not terrible by any means, but I did get a sense of McCarey and writer Sheridan Gibney biting off a bit more than they could chew.

Gösta Ekman, Karin Swanström, a young Ingrid Bergman, Håkan Westergren and Tutta Rolf. Swedenhielms 1935 directed by Gustav Molander. The Swedenhielms is an old aristocratic family with absolutely no sense about economy. Because of the family's extravagance, they are heading for bankruptcy. The old housekeeper tries to keep the household together. To keep on living their fancy lives the grownup children has gone to a loan shark, but one day the shark wants the money back, with a little blackmail. Perhaps their problems would be solved if daddy, who's an inventor with valuable patents, was awarded the Nobel Prize? (Either chemistry of physics, the plot doesn't make that clear). If it wasn't for Ingrid Bergman's presence in one of her earlier roles, this movie would have been long forgotten, since the plot is old and dusty, she is more or less the only reason to watch this movie. For me as a Swede though it's fun to see these old actors in action.
