Difficult one as Hawkwind have such a unique sound, the whole "space rock" think covers bands that are much more instrumental to a large degree than Hawkwind were. Apart from the band's ex members stuff, the only real bands that were similar in "my" period were The Pink Fairies and to a lesser degree Gong. There are similarities with some of the Krautrock bands like "Neu!" (Neu! 75" is well worth a listen). If I think of any more I will post them, but they were pretty unique. Oh my god! Ok, this is neither here nor ther but. I can't listen to peter gabriel genesis for some reason. Doesn't work for me. Selling england by the pound is one song where it all comes together for me. That's about it.
Well, maybe that whole album is good. Maybe the lamb also. But not genesis before that.
Wind and wuthering is better than all early genesis.

Can't agree, Gabriel Genesis IS Genesis. Trick and Wuthering were still prog albums but after that they were largely a dreary pop band. A lot of the earlier stuff is very British though and like a lot of that more "pastoral" psyche/prog doesn't get a lot of success in the US if that's where you are from. Nursery/Foxtrot/Selling are a classic threesome although Lamb was rushed down to Gabriel's ego and would have been a better single album.
