The Corn is Green is a lovely film I always catch when I have the opportunity, spiderwort . Just the sort of character work Davis loved to do, and all three of her collaborations with director Irving Rapper represented some of her best '40s work. Others who know better than I may have something to say about John Dall's Welsh accent, but I put this performance right at the top of his feature appearances (and it was his screen debut, too).

Couldn't agree more, Doghouse6 . And I'm surprised that Davis wasn't nominated for an Oscar for her performance. I love your comment about it being character work that she loved to do. That's so true about her, isn't it? I do think that's what she really loved to do and did so well. Even when she was all dolled up and made to look beautiful, for her the character she inhabited always came first.
