SAW X? Why call it that? Yes, it's common to use the Roman number in the title of a 10th installment, because it can also be read as a letter that makes everything look cool, but this sequel focuses on human drama more than gore. Actually, the 8th installment was originally going to be titled SAW: LEGACY. It would've been more appropriate, considering how little the plot had to do with John Kramer/Jigsaw. They ended up using the title JIGSAW, which could've been used for this movie instead. It's the one that focuses the most on a character we've seen mostly in brief flashbacks... Flashbacks that take place within the same time span, even though he looks older with each sequel, and it's harder to ignore this issue when he's the center of attention. Now, where was I? Oh, right! The more dramatic approach. It's certainly something to appreciate in a franchise known for the over-the-top death scenes... So why didn't I enjoy this movie? Two reasons: A) It does stick to the brand's formula at times. Not in a creative way, though. B) Jigsaw is portrayed as someone more sympathetic than what he actually is. There's even a new villain who exists solely so he looks not as bad in comparison. It's disingenuous.
5/10

A producer gives an update on Saw 11:
"...Cecilia is still alive and Tobin and Shawnee are in a foreign country still. So that, to me, would be the natural place to take at least the next one."
