That’s a huge part of it, yes. Also Marvel reportedly rarely storyboards its action sequences- with Gunn and Raimi being the rare exceptions (which on a side note is why their action scenes look so much better)- because their inexperienced directors don’t know how to visualize such scenes. The effects team is told to spend countless hours doing mock-ups only for them to be scrapped and redone. It’s beyond archaic and actually rather fascinating that such a major studio could be so amateurish with its major action/effects set pieces. Not sure about Gunn and Raimi's Marvel movies having the best action scenes Gunn was triumphant with GOTG 3 because it was his last sequel of that trilogy, previous GOTG movies of his were shoddy. The Doctor Strange 2 superhero fight scenes were abhorrent so you'll need to explain where you're getting your opinions from. I did not say their action scenes were the best. I said they looked better. Raimi’s camera work is miles more creative than the usual stagnant directing of MCU movies. Gunn’s, while not quite as stylish, is also head and shoulders above them too. I suspect you are just thinking about what’s literally happening on screen rather than how it is shot or the actual camera work/cinematography— which is what I’m referring to. The fights on Titan by the Russos, for contrast, have cool things happening but they are shot in a static way with no interesting camera work/angles at all.
