Into the penultimate round of warm up games. England's Billy Vunipola got red carded for going shoulder first into the head of Irish forward Andrew Porter. Absolutely ridiculous from Billy. Ireland went on to win 29-10 but were well on top before getting the man advantage. One of the Romanian blockheads decided to tune up his pugilist skills against Italy and was sent off in another ridiculous indicent. Italy won 57-7.
The Springboks annihilated Wales 53-14.

Ireland looking pretty good. Byrne’s kicking was off yesterday though.
France must be worried by their recent second half collapses against Scotland.

So the groups are
Group A: New Zealand France Italy Uruguay Namibia
Group B: South Africa Ireland Scotland Tonga Romania
Group C: Wales Australia Fiji Georgia Portugal
Group D: England Japan Argentina Samoa Chile
Group B is a brutal one for Scotland. Whoever misses in Group D out of Japan and Argentina will be disappointed. There shouldn't be too many problems for the All Blacks, France, Wales or Australia in their groups. Though the latter two wouldn't want to be complacent when they play Fiji.

To summarise the warm up games this week: France, Ireland and South Africa looked strong. Australia and England played like dog shit. Scotland looked great against weaker opposition, Fiji looked strong against poorly performing opposition, New Zealand looked poor against strong opposition. Italy and Japan had a really fun game.

NZ have shown very little to have shorter odds than SA, Ireland and probably France either IMO. That's based on branding rather than form.

I’m sensing a French win at home, but if they beat NZ in their group the hype will be dialled up to 100.
I still can’t get over the stupidity of the groups. Despite being ludicrously out of form, Australia will probably top group C, then face either Argentina or Japan in a WC QF. England will win group D, and face a Wales side that couldn’t beat a poor Australia in another QF.
Meanwhile, 3 of South Africa, New Zealand, Ireland, France and Scotland won’t be making a SF, despite 4 of them being the best 4 sides in the world at the moment, and Scotland having a fair shout at being at least #6.

I think South Africa are going to win this year. I don't know it for sure, but I just feel it in my bones. Siya Kolisa and his team carry the hopes and dreams of a battered nation crying out for a unifying moment. Plus, the games are actually going to be shown live on national television. SABCTV viewers are missing out on the Aussie cricket tour but the cash strapped SABC have got the rugby and millions more South Africans are going to be able to watch it than if it was only on Cable TV. All the impoverished analogue viewers in a digital world will get to see it too. Hadn't thought of the rugby until tonight, until my friend Allen phoned me, and he is pumped for the tournament. Remember weststigersbob, "hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."
