HARRY DEAN STANTON in PARIS TEXAS.Brilliant film. I had the complete screenplay, heavily illustrated, a treasure. Sadly, it was 'borrowed' some years back, never returned, and the sucker now sells for huge bucks online, so I've never replaced it. But I've watched the film again and again. Dean Stockwell, another great character performer who crossed the line into stardom a few times himself, is equally as good as Stanton. It's a great film, certainly one the best films of the eighties amyghost. Sad about the loss of your treasured illustrated screenplay, but I have learned not lend, books, films etc which one loves to friends or relatives. And the person who "borrowed" it probably didn't even bother to read it.

Jane Darwell Oscar winning actress in The Grapes of Wrath and a reliable supporting actress. A sort of pre-Miss Marple solving a crime 1937 as head nurse.

@stammerhead Thank yo so much for bringing this Laird Cregar video to us! I found it fascinating. I really didn’t know much about him and, shamefully, I realized that I’ve never seen any of his films. It just shows that there really is no end to what you can learn about Hollywood history.

Not strictly what you asked for bu-u-u-ut…
A lot of movie character actors were leads in popular TV series:
Hugh O’Brien in Wyatt Earp Peter Graves in Mission: Impossible Carroll O’Conner in All In The Family Buddy Epsen in Barneby Jones Reed Hadley in Racket Squad Brian Keith in Family Affair
I’m sure many others could be named.
