Yeah! Shitty audio is much worse than shit visuals. My blu-ray player upconverts dvds to 1080 and the picture detail is pretty nice. I have a dvd of Cop Land but it's non anamorphic 1.85 aspect ratio but does have 5.1 audio. When I 'borrowed' a HD mp4 file it had 2 channel audio. Just why?? They need to know how to use AC3 passthru. Argh!

The only thing I have to play them on now is a laptop. Doovd player does not seem to work with recent TV.

The new HDMI video ports require device authentication, if your device is blacklisted then it won't work. There are also different versions of HDMI that require a matching version cable that must be compatible with both your HDMI TV and other device. The HDMI format was invented to enforce copy protection, not as a superior form of video format. Performance wise "Displayport" has greater bandwidth and fewer problems than "HDMI". www.pcworld.com/article/2030669/hdmi-vs-displayport-which-display-interface-reigns-supreme.htmlWhen it comes to video and audio quality without glitchy problems, "Displayport" and "Thunderbolt 3" are better than "HDMI". Sure it may cost more and be more difficult to obtain, but isn't it worth not having to deal with the pain in the neck problems associated with the failure of device serial number authentication associated with HDMI that can lead to situations with either no audio and or no video.
