The Battle of Canae....AFRICAN general Hannibal surrounded and annihilated an entire army of Roman crackas.... One of their worst defeats. Hannibal is unquestionably one of the great generals in world history. His march to Italy is one of the most famous campaigns in history. Hannibal is often called Rome’s worst nightmare.

Ancient Roman society was the last in a long list.
From the very beginnings of civilization the uncivilized people on the fringes of civilization got organized enough and yet were barbaric enough to seize the civilized area by military force.
Some of the first writing and thus "civilization" rose to significance in Sumer and Egypt.
The Akkadians conquered Sumer.
At some point after various military complications, Babylon dominated the area of Sumer and much of Egypt.
The next fringe invaders were the Assyrians.
Then Persia.
Then Greece.
Then Rome.
Rome secured a military dominance of the "known world" but could not maintain cultural dominance. It had already split in two before the next fringe group, Nordic tribes, attacked the Western Roman Empire.
At its height the ancient Roman Empire was a most bizarre mix of civilization and barbarism. The famous Roman Colosseum featured pillar capital styles from Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian architectural traditions, and yet it was where people were killed for entertainment.

The Battle of Canae....AFRICAN general Hannibal surrounded and annihilated an entire army of Roman crackas.... Hannibal was a descendant of Phoenician colonists, who sacrificed their children to Baal. It is said the Third Antichrist will enter Europe wearing a blue turban and will cause the infernal gods of Hannibal to live again.

The Roman leaders understood one thing, the unwashed masses needed to be fed and entertained. To ignore them (and ironically enough, to baby them) would lead to an Emperor's ruin.

What part? I think about those leather skirts, hot hunky legs and the dangly bits in-between when I think of Roman soldiers.

Like the English could defeat the actual literal FIRST ANTI-CHRIST without American support. ;) It really took the Russians to defeat Napoleon. The Russians also did the real work in defeating Hitler. It'll probably be the Russians who defeat the turban wearing "Mabus" as well.
