Brisbane have home field,tons of experience and just generally seem to have been building to this for 4-5 years. Carlton are travelling, playing their first finals series in a decade and look at the start of their journey. No excuses for Brisbane, but the Blues have won 10 of 11 going in.
Here's a cute fact: Channel 7 wanted this game for a 5.15 start so that the NRL game would start halfway through the last quarter, when they hope Brisbane viewers will be glued to their TV's in a thrilling final quarter. Nice try, but no one in SE Queensland will be watching the last 10 minutes of this.

Carlton - based more on ‘feeling’ than reality.
As for the start time - I’ve heard this a few times now - Is Queensland an AFL state ? I don’t know why anyone would think it is …..

Roy Masters was having a good laugh at Caroline Wilson's expense on Offsiders a little while ago. He was pointing out the ridiculous way the AFL inflates its junior numbers. Caro claimed the figures were regular weekly players. Even if that is the case,I think it's more of the same type of mothers not wanting their children to play a violent sport factor that boosts soccer's junior numbers as well. |

Brisbane wake up in the 2nd quarter and lead 42-39 at the half. Looks like Carlton have fired their shot and couldn't kill the game

Lions do it relatively comfortably by 16. Carlton kept coming, but had nothing. Lions win 79-63.

Oh, and the strategic start time resulted in zero overlap between the games. You could have seen the final siren and then flicked to the NRL kick off.
Now please God let one of Collingwood or Penrith win. Don't let QLD win both!
