Damn good album. The Strokes as a band are done but inspired Arctic Monkeys to even create a band according to its lead singer Alex Turner. I've been listening to Arctic Monkeys too. They do a lot of covers of The Strokes but Alex can't touch Julian Casablancas vocals. They're both very good though in their own way though.

I bought the first album when it came out but always felt they were on a downwards spiral after that. Not their fault necessarily, there was so much unwarranted hype surrounding them back then.

This is true. They were under a large hype umbrella for their debut album which is normal for the industry trying to push something new before moving on to the next crap. I recently listened to (most) of their first album and I found it okay. IMO Room on Fire is way better and more polished ironically at the same time losing some of their heavy marketing. They were better after the hype.

Can you expound a little? Played it while I had some Heineken's and bourbon last night. I have Julian Casablanca's 2009 album but never heard his material with the Strokes.
