IMO this is the best time to go camping in states like Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. Yes its great going in the summer time but it gets so hot sometimes. Right now is great. Get up in the morning wearing long pants and a sweat shirt. As the day progresses you slowly start to shed some of the cloths. But this time of year when camping is great for hiking, fishing and biking. Some campsites know this and stay open till the end of October.
And when it starts getting chilly in the evening just cozy up to your camp fire.

The last time I slept in a tent was 1989 in the Lake District, north-west England. It was wet, cold and shit.
Before that was in the outback in Australia. Strange stuff - boiling hot during the day, but freezing cold in the night. Had to use one of those tin foil astronaut sheets to try to keep the warmth in.
Having sad that, there was something absolutely magical about driving for hours along dirt track, finding a billabong (small lake), making camp and a fire and cooking steaks, while watching the stars with bats flying around all over the air.
If you've never been to the centre of Australia, just go. You can drive for 10 hours and see nothing but dirt, no signs of humans. Which sounds boring, but when you're there, you appreciate the rawness of the planet.

Sitting around the fire at night drinking beer and cooking hotdogs was great.

Used to do it for gigs, hated it. Not that kind of camping. My former career as a drag artist. Picked it up from that Aussie movie.

Have any of you just wanted to get away from it all for awhile like this? Your house, computer, TV's and all other luxuries will be there when you get back.

Guess I am the only one who likes to just get away with peace and quite once in awhile.

The solitude, tranquillity and peacefulness.
I might get into it one day. I have a friend at work who does that. He goes on hikes and carries everything on his backpack and sets up camp for the night. I’m not sure I’d do that just yet.
