OK I just googled it, apparently South Korean students spend about 12-16 hours a day studying Which means even if they're only doing 12 hours, they still need to sleep for 8 hours, that's only 4 hours (at most) of leisure time

I assumed Japan had the highest math scores, which while quite high, it's actually South Korea that does the best in the world at teaching math (as well as reading and third at science). I dunno what their curriculum is like (I'm assuming they have more school hours than US) They're probably not the best role models either. Korea in particular is known to put ridiculous amounts of pressure on students. If you don't do well on your highschool tests you don't get into a good college and you're basically locked out of working for the big 3 companies that own most of the country. As a result there's tons of cheating going on.

I was quite the math wiz in my youth. My HS math average was 99%, and that’s only because I was in a bad car accident in my sophomore year, and missed a few months of school.
I even took both pre-calculus and calculus at the same time in my senior year. The math department head discouraged me from doing it, saying it almost never worked out for the student. I was defiant, adamant, and defied those odds.
Of course now, I can’t do simple addition in my head. I miss the years where I actually had a functioning brain. 🧠

American students includes any non-citizens in the American school system of which we have A LOT of East-Asian and South-Asian students. IF you look closely at the American SAT system, you can see how Asians do a lot better than non-Asians. Only 1 in 10 SAT takers is Asian yet they have as a whole the highest scores. If you took Asians out of the equation, U.S. test scores would be even more sorry than they are now.

Well that should make you proud shouldn't it? Yes and no. My Asian-American son is currently in an equal outcome school system - No hard reading assignments, no book reports, no homework. The kids of Tiger-parent Asian folk are running circles around my kids and that too is no joke. My son is taking Honors Geometry in 9th grade which makes him the top 5%, give or take. The Indian-American kids are in Algebra II or higher making them the top 5% of the top 5%, figuratively speaking.

To be honest, I don't like so called Tiger parents as they often ruin their kids with their standards and sometimes this leads to suicide.😞

I am pretty Tiger parent myself but not so much as some others. That said, Jewish and Eastern thought is that education is of primary importance to a potentially successful life. Many Westerners aren't wired to think that way.
