Everyone needs a release. I can never understand how people who don't smoke/drink/toke or whatever can ever relax. They must seem uptight as hell without a vice of some kind. That's what science fiction is for... A little science fiction to take your mind off your problems for a little while.

Everyone needs a release. I can never understand how people who don't smoke/drink/toke or whatever can ever relax. They must seem uptight as hell without a vice of some kind. I have no interest in drink or drugs. Some people just don't see them as appealing. Which is deeply ingrained in humans, stretching back to before humans were humans. Which is sort of a problem as pointed out in this documentary that humans also seem to prefer leaders who monkey around. Hence there is a real problem where senators lose all sense of morality due to drinking and smoking too much. So a public that screws up all the time attempts to seek to elect a screw up like Donald Trump in order to alleviate their collective guilt so that they won't feel judged by someone who is more competent than they are. Even though Donald Trump doesn't drink, he still has appeal to those who do drink, which results in a vicious circle that leads to the over all trend of the dumbing down of society. So the main locus of the problem is the unaddressed matter of mass guilt due to lack of keeping up with perceived expectations. Which continues to remain a very exploitable weakness in society that could be used by other nations for nefarious reasons.
