Religious people are so stupid!! (And that's just Christians). IMO anyone who thinks they can tell how intelligent someone is by asking 'Are you religious?' is a total retard.

Nope.
I don't know about Aristotle, but Newton made his discoveries in order to be closer to God. To understand his workings, that's something that today's church has rejected.
Today though, the churches (at least those in the US) are hellbent on denying science.
You moved the goalposts a little, I think. The question was not necessarily about the modern churches. Not really.
You see education raises the IQ by approximately 1 to 5 IQ points for every additional year of education.
When the church are trying to destroy education, like promoting say "Intelligent Design", they are stunting peoples growth in that regards.

Well, that's a US issue. We have different problems. And while the religious schools ignore many subjects we consider important, there is no evidence our religious community produces stupid people. They all start reading years before most secular kids do, they train their mind to remember a lot of material - something almost completely gone from regular schools. So the problem is not their cognitive abilities but their conditioning.

Faith gives you an excuse to periodically turn off your critical thinking skills.

They all start reading years before most secular kids do, they train their mind to remember a lot of material - something almost completely gone from regular schools. So the problem is not their cognitive abilities but their conditioning. This is quite true about the religious kids in Israel. They learn to read early and they read massive amounts of material along the way (with much being remembered). They can learn anything they need to know as an adult. Technical education for religious women does quite well for the women and the communities. When the Harry Potter books came out, Orthodox rabbis in Israel and America strongly supported the religious kids reading them. It helped to cement the advantages of being good and devoted readers. The last (7th) book was released on a Friday evening during the Sabbath so the Orthodox rabbis arranged for Arab stores to take pre-orders for the books so that the money would change hands on a non-Sabbath day. The children were given receipts. On the book release Sabbath, the books all showed up at the Arab stores and the Orthodox children got their books so they could read them on the Sabbath afternoon. The Orthodox rabbis didn’t object to the material about magic because they considered it a fantasy. The bottom line of the story was good vs evil, which they agreed exists in the world. I bought all the audio books for Harry Potter and part of the reason was so that I could talk to the Orthodox kids about the books. They were really hooked on the story.
