Begins before 1900 but spans the era thru the '20s 1931/1960 "40 years of social and urban progress in American life from 1889 to 1929 are seen through the life of a progressive newspaper editor/lawyer in Oklahoma, and the wife who resents his longing for the excitement of the frontier in the years after the Oklahoma land rush."

I have a personal connection to this one, Pippen . I have ancestors from Oklahoma, and when Edna Ferber came there to research "Cimarron," she rented a room from my great aunt in Pawnee. I learned this from her daughter, my second cousin, when I was living with her and her husband in Chicago, going to graduate school. It made me very happy to know that I was in some way connected to that novel and these films. I still haven't seen the first version. Will one of these days, I hope.

One of my favorite Wayne films, politicidal1 , and I think one of his best performances. A wonderful swan song for him, indeed.
