with resignation honors for allies Honors list blasted as rewards for ‘car crash cronies’ of former British prime minister. www.politico.eu/article/liz-truss-peerages-honors-outrage-matthew-elliott-jon-moynihan-ruth-porter-house-of-lords/Former prime ministers are entitled to gift knighthoods, peerages and other honors to colleagues and allies upon leaving office. But current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faced calls to block Truss from submitting a list, given that she served such a short and controversial tenure, which ended with her resignation in October 2022 after a tax-cutting budget proposal sent markets into meltdown. Nevertheless, Truss was permitted to send three close allies to the House of Lords — Matthew Elliott, the chief executive of the Vote Leave campaign for Brexit; Jon Moynihan, a Tory donor and Vote Leave chairman; and her former deputy chief of staff Ruth Porter. She also nominated several former advisers and Conservative lawmakers for lesser honors. “Liz Truss was prime minister for 40-odd days. She and her conservative colleagues pushed the economy off a cliff,” Labour MP Jonathan Ashworth told the BBC. “Families across the country are paying more on their mortgage, more in tax, more on their credit cards as a consequence of decisions taken by Liz Truss. And these are rewards for failure,” he said. Truss, meanwhile, said in a statement that she was “delighted these champions for the conservative causes of freedom, limited government and a proud and sovereign Britain have been suitably honored.”

So smug and unapologetic about what she did too. The meltdown of the economy was apparently nothing to do with her.

I'm not outraged but it would be funny if these honours only lasted for 49 days.

Former prime ministers are entitled to gift knighthoods, peerages and other honors to colleagues and allies upon leaving office. So what is all the outrage about? She just did what every other ex prime minister has done. Do people think they normally bestow honours on their opponents and enemies? In any case, I thought Liz Truss voted for Remain at the time. I can only guess she didn't feel the chief executive of the utterly pisspoor Vote Remain campaign deserved a gong for their efforts. Or did they get one already?

I think the feeling is the person who trashed the economy and wreaked havok on many people's lives to the point where she had to be thrown out by her own party after a few weeks doesnt deserve the right to enoble her chums. You may be above being affective by her incompetance, but many people's lives were economically devastated by the knock on efect of her actions.

I don't disagree with any of that - horrible, useless, incompetent shit. And ugly. But there's nothing in the report that shows outrage. It's typical journalist clickbait with no substance. Journalists are my least favourite category of people, jobwise.

Truss is seen as a leading figure in the CGG a new Tory group looking to expand free markets and slash taxes (worked so well for them last time). They see themselves as the "non mental" side of the hard right. There seem to be 3 factions looking to replace Sunak, The headbangers under Braverman, The CGG types probably under someone like Badenoch who has been trying to reposition herself as a softer version of the largely thought unelectable Braverman and a centrist slightly righter version of the Labour Party under Mordaunt. Under the Tory leadership rules, the Parliamentary party is likely to want to fix it again to only give the members, who are much harder right, two candidates they consider acceptable which would't include Braverman. Expect the usual Tory backstabbing, manipulations and "house of cards" style machinations all through the year.My bet would be the party and membership fudging it and Badenoch becoming leader even though Mordaunt is much likelier to win a general election.

Liz Truss has now reached the next level.
She can speak anything, even poetry - and there is no outrage, just a loud cringy silence.
Wow, this is what I call a poem of "projection" ...
Liz Truss: "How to dig the deep state, NobbiGPT?"
NobbiGPT: "Got to an English university where they study how to do geophysical exploration, ask for the statistical methods used and let them apply them on elite theory in sociological science. For getting better results You may filter away those who pop up mentioning Your name".
Liz Truss: "Sounds like a lot of work. Explain to me like for a 4 Year old, NobbiGPT."
NobbiGPT: "Ask Your carer for a shovel for the sandpit so You can start digging for the deep state"
I mean why doesn't she ask Oliver Dowden? He knows how to handle these AI thingies.
