British-American playwright and film and television writer David Seidler has left us at the age of 86, on March 16th. Perhaps best known for writing the scripts for the stage version and screen version for the story The King's Speech 2010. For the film, he won the Academy Award and a BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay. Other screenplays includes Malice in Wonderland TV 1985, Onassis: The Richest Man in the World TV 1988, Tucker: The Man and His Dream 1988, Quest for Camelot 1998, The King and I 1999 and Son of the Dragon 2006. American actor M. Emmet Walsh has left us at the age of 88, on March 19th. Best known in supporting roles, who appeared in over 200 films and television series, including small but important supporting roles such as Earl Frank in Straight Time (1978), the Madman in The Jerk (1979), Captain Bryant in Blade Runner (1982), Harv in Critters (1986), and Walt Scheel in Christmas with the Kranks (2004). He starred as private detective Loren Visser in Blood Simple (1984), the Coen Brothers' first film, for which he won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead. His other numerous film appearances include Midnight Cowboy (1969), Little Big Man (1970), What's Up, Doc? (1972), Serpico (1973), The Gambler (1974), Bound for Glory (1976), Slap Shot (1977), Airport '77 (1977), Ordinary People (1980), Reds (1981), Silkwood (1983), Fletch (1985), Back to School (1986), Raising Arizona (1987), Romeo + Juliet (1996), My Best Friend's Wedding (1997), The Iron Giant (1999), Calvary (2014), and Knives Out (2019). American film director and writer Joe Camp has left us at the age of 84, on March 15th. Perhaps best known as the creator and director of the Benji films starting 1974 and the last 2004, as well as Hawmps! 1976 and The Double McGuffin 1979. He made over $600 million in gross income and was one of the most successful independent filmmakers in history. He won an Outstanding Children's Program Emmy Award for Benji at Work 1980, the year before he was nominated in the same category for Benji's Very Own Christmas. Primarily known for taking over his father's Jean de Brunhoff's (1899 - 1937) creation Barbar the Elephant and making it a billion euro business around the world. Films include Horror Express 1972, The Loreley's Grasp 1973, The Girl from the Red Cabaret 1973, Unfinished Business 1977, The Frenchman's Garden 1978 and Presentimientos 2013. Perhaps best known internationally for playing Fritz Wendel, a Jew passing as a Christian, in the Oscar-winning film version of Cabaret 1972, opposite Liza Minnelli, Michael York, and Marisa Berenson. He is also known for his role as Inspector Harry Klein in the long-running crime series Derrick (1974–1998) and as Mayor Wöller in the TV series Um Himmels Willen (2002–2021). Other movies include The Bridge 1959, The Angel Who Pawned Her Harp 1959, Disney's Miracle of the White Stallions 1963, When Night Falls on the Reeperbahn 1967, The Man with the Glass Eye 1969, The Games 1970, Le Dernier Combat 1983 and Murder on the Orient Express TV 2001. American actor Louis Gossett Jr. has left us at the age of 87, on March 28th. In 1982, for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in An Officer and a Gentleman, he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and became the first black actor to win in this category. In 1977, he appeared in the popular miniseries Roots, for which he won Outstanding Lead Actor for a Single Appearance in a Drama or Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards. At the Emmy Awards, he continued to receive recognition, with nominations for The Sentry Collection Presents Ben Vereen: His Roots (1978), Palmerstown, U.S.A. (1981), Sadat (1983), A Gathering of Old Men (1987), Touched by an Angel (1997), and Watchmen (2019).
