I grew up watching Robert Downey Jr. Not many of the actors who dominated teen movies in the 1980s have gone on to win Oscars. We saw Tim Robbins tonight who's one, Nicolas Cage is another. Downey Jr's an interesting person, multi-talented son of independent filmmaker Robert Downey Sr. who passed away in 2021; I'm sure he would have been proud to see his son accepting an Oscar. Pleased for him winning on his 3rd nomination now he's 58 and pleased for Da'Vine Joy Randolph too.

I always though Robert Downey Jr. is one of most talented actors. From Weird Science, The Pick-up Artist, Less Than Zero in the 80s through Chaplin, Only You, Restoration, Two Girls and a Guy in the 90s, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Zodiac, Charlie Bartlett, Tropic Thunder, and the Iron Man movies in the 2000s & 2010s. He could have got more nominations than just three. Glad to see he finally win one.

My prediction Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role: Lily Gladstone, Killers of the Flower Moon Emma Stone had a better performance. I sense this new group of Oscar voter will go for Lily Gladstone I haven't had time to watch POOR THINGS yet, but I've seen all the rest, and for me, Sandra Hüller ( Anatomy of a Murder, The Zone of Interest) is better than Gladstone too. As is Annette Bening, who is brilliant in Nyad. But Gladstone is the favorite, and the politically correct choice. I wouldn't be surprised if Emma Stone pulls off a surprise win here, but who knows? It happened. Poor Things is a weird movie. Emma Stones was amazing in it though. I really thought they will follow last year's script giving to a popular nominee, like MIchelle Yeoh instead of better performance of Cate Blanchett. Not this year. As much I thought Lily Gladstone was powerful, happy that they return to honor a better performance. I like Emma Stones since watching her in Easy A. Now she is a multiple Oscars winner.

I am happy that The Boy and the Heron won over Spiderman. The animation was dazzling, but I was not that crazy about the Spiderman cartoon.

Also, glad to see Godzilla Minus One won Visual Effect over the lesser stellar movie of The Creator which may have better effect.

He was kind of like the guy most likely back then, but off screen issues hampered his progress, much like his friends and fellow hellraisers Johnny Depp and Christian Slater. To me, three of the best who often made great movies.
Johnny Depp, Neve Campbell & Robert Downey Jr.
Then there was group of friends John Cusack, Peter Gallagher, Tim Robbins and James Spader who've also had great careers.
Christian Slater & Robert Downey Jr.

Rufus, I watched POOR THINGS this morning. What a dazzling, amazing, wonderful film it was - I was entranced, like a kid, by the story and visuals; the production design was extraordinary, and Emma Stone is excellent, the sheer daring and depth of her fearless performance as Bella Baxter obviously blew the academy voters away. Some performances can't be ignored and the Oscar went to the actress who most deserved it rather than ... Anyway, fabulous film, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so glad I made the effort to watch it on the big screen, it surpassed all my expectations. I think it's even better than The Favourite (2018) - and Emma Stone, well, she is a great actress; one of the best of her generation. I have never watched Dogtooth (2009) from this director - Yorgos Lanthimos. I think I should.

"Rochelle, Rochelle", a made-up movie in the Seinfeld sitcom.
