Afterlife was 8 years ago already? My God, where does the time go? And how come it took this long for a follow-up? (Although I have my suspicions -- not much demand, not much enthusiasm, etc.) From what I could see of the trailers and some scenes for Afterlife on cable, Afterlife and Frozen Empire look nowhere near as funny as the first two movies, but especially the first movie. And that was the original point of the first movie. Comedy. I'm sure the alternate universe Ghostbusters with the female cast of comediennes was more focused on comedy. Although that didn't do as well, either, obviously because in the end, nothing compares to the original. But I'm sure the female Ghostbusters was more in the spirit of the first two movies. As in, the spirit of comedy. Kinder & I both enjoyed the 2016, but it is am alternate universe. The fan base hated it even though every one of the original team plus Sigourney Weaver & Annie Potts showed up. They even had a bust of Egon since Ramis had died. I felt it covered the subject better than Afterlife which felt like a giant callback to the original. Which is this one. We have to sit for a lot of plot we really don't need. Like the effort to get everyone in on the battle-all the adult struggle to pull a lever to beat the baddie. Felt like anime all together now! The 2016 one is now rated 6.8/10 on IMDB which isn't too bad. It was originally 5.4/10 for a long time. People accused IMDb of fiddling with its rating, I think.

Hell no. The original is a classic. But as a side story? 2016 works as an alternate. They had been struggling for years to get a 3rd movie going which apparently Murray was the block to. So they did a from scratch version where Murray's character was killed which might show his animosity. All the people who hated Marvels should hate Frozen Empire. It puts the new girl front & center. She is what moves the plot. The black girl has more to do than Murray. Maybe as much or slightly more than Hudson. They add Nanjiani pretty prominently. Probably more screen time than Murray who actually looks pretty rough. Ackroyd & Hudson look like they did less drugs over the years. Hudson is 5 yrs older (1945) to Murray (1950)

The original Ghostbusters movie is one of the most overrated films of all time.
It’s about as funny as a poke in the ribs with an empty stamp album.
Fuck that shite!
😛

I'm closer to the tomato score. Were this The Marvels people would be screeching about the black girl, etc. Do you think if a Marvel superhero showed up you’d like it more? 😝

No. I didn't much care for Afterlife either because it was pandering to the fans who hated the 2016 version. It is like they sat around the table asking what they could put in to please the fan base.

They learned from 2016 the fan base is locked into the original stuff so. Yeah. It felt like they could have done a good movie with the news, but they knew they needed the old guys so they paired Ackroyd up with the girl & a Korean kid. The story was mostly her angst. Mayor Dickless is trying to shut the Ghostbusters down so the destruction they cause plus the kids are not getting paid so child labor law violations put them on thin ice so Phoebe had to stop ghostbusting so angst. She meets a ghost she likes who is actually just using her for the big bad... So Aykroyd has a sizable part Then Hudson. Murray is in like 3 bits? He tests Nadeem. Then shows up for the final battle. The mom character doesn't have much, nor does the BF. The boy(wolf whoever) also seems to just be there so no one will bitch he's not there. He has a running battle with Slimer. So lots of call backs to the original which is probably why the audience rating is double the critic rating. Otherwise lots of the DEI stuff people bitched about in Marvels As for the extras, the trap is just a plastic model of the ghost trap (for $25) The plushies are cute. Maybe a bit expensive. Slider isn't a good match but the 3d glasses marshmallow plush is better & the smores one is even more cute Afterlife was 8 years ago already? My God, where does the time go? She's talking about the stupid all-female cast movie from 2016.
