I went to Ein Kerem that evening - a Jerusalem neighborhood filled with churches and monasteries. But everything was closed. Aren't they supposed to have a holiday mass on Easter? Yes, Easter Sunday mass is the most important religious service of the year. Maybe the Christian churches in that neighbourhood celebrate Easter Sunday on a different date?

One church is most definitely Catholic but they have been renovating the last couple of years so this might be the reason. I suppose there was more action in the Old City but it's not a very safe place these few last months. Especially during Ramadan.

Apparently the churches are mostly Greek Orthodox which follow the Julian Calender and so they won't celebrate Easter until 5 May this year.

Not in that part of town. Unless I've missed something.
