Excellent news. I wonder if plod genuinely thought no crime was committed or if they were scared of her summoning and army of lawyers and PR execs against them and the government. She should get into politics - she would win. Also, in the report, the picture of the graffiti - I don't see a racial slur. Seems lefty BBC reporters have wrongly expanded its meaning in typical fashion to try to criminalise stuff which isn't. Media is truly pathetic.

Looks like she’s saying she’ll fund any challenges to the law if someone says something similar to what she did but does get charged with an offence. Goosebumps. She’s so awesome, and that’s really important as they might see fit to charge a regular Joe or Joanne who says essentially the same thing as this famous Joanne whom they clearly want to avoid in court due to her resources. If a case gets before a magistrate (guessing that’s the relevant type of judge) the new law may not survive the fight - she knows it and Humza just proved he knows it too. What’s his problem, anyway? Is he pandering or a misogynist? I mean, I don’t expect you to know his mind, just what he presents. There's a bill tackling misogyny that's still being worked on. They're probably caught up on the tricky definition of what a woman is.

I suppose they’re also still working out in which women’s prisons they’ll be housing the men who violate that law. Ba dum bum, tsss. Scotland, ladies and gentlemen. I had another impossibly clever hot take but it slipped right offa mah brain 🧠 during the clickety clacking.

Though he has been clear in the media that the law should mean there is a good deal of leeway about what you can say before an offence is committed.

Police Scotland has received more than 3,000 hate crime reports since a new law was introduced on Monday, the BBC understands. It creates a new crime of "stirring up hatred" over protected characteristics. A large number were about a 2020 speech by First Minister Humza Yousaf - then justice secretary - highlighting white people in prominent public roles. Community Safety Minister Siobhian Brown said people were making "fake and vexatious complaints". (No shit!) Police Scotland said complaints about Mr Yousaf's speech were assessed at the time, with no crime committed and no action taken. The new law will not apply retrospectively. Hate crime reports are handled by the force's Contact, Command and Control centres. These have been extremely busy but are understood to be coping with the number of complaints. Ms Brown told BBC Radio's Good Morning Scotland programme that "misinformation" and publicity had led to the high number of reports. She also confirmed that a "fake complaint" was made using her name and contact details on Monday. … www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-68721208

The first minister said the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act 2021 "protects the most vulnerable and marginalised in our in society" while also safeguarding "freedom of expression and freedom of speech". Mr Yousaf told BBC Scotland News: "Those new offenses that have been created by the act have a very high threshold for criminality. "The behaviour has to be threatening or abusive and intends to stir up hatred. "So it doesn't deal with people just being offended or upset or insulted." He said Ms Rowling's posts on X were a "perfect example of that". The first minister added: "Anybody who read the act will not have been surprised at all that there's no arrests made. "JK Rowling's tweets may well be offensive, upsetting and insulting to trans people. "But it doesn't mean that they meet a threshold of criminality of being threatening or abusive and intending to stir up hatred." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-68725547

Guess folk will have to learn to live with "offensive, upsetting and insulting" things being said about them/

I love Kelly Macdonald, from Trainspotting through forever, love her 💕! At the very end of the advert, I caught it; before that she was speaking more softly and generically.

A Misogyny Law is only inferring that women are victims and is not empowering at all.
Will there be a Misandry Law too, so men can be equal to women? :D

Bagging on Scots became part of my boards brand in 2015. It’s not my fault Hep was such a Soapboxy pain in the ass. 😝 citrouille: sorry for the tag annoyance, just not trying to dog your man behind your back. 😁
