I don't know. Things were a wreck for a while and the raises vs. cost-of-living part of the equation is probably the worst I've seen in my lifetime.
But my projection for retirement keeps getting closer, not further away. My first goal was 59. That moved to 57 and now things are tracking like I'll be done even sooner. 55 or 56. Which is totally fair considering I started working when I was 15 and would have worked full-time for over thirty years if that is indeed the case.

that is a very fair question.
MY opinion is because since we've become a CONSUMER DRIVEN ECONOMY, we care more about the GNP/bigger picture than we do the "less important" minor details.
Sure we are $37T in national debt but look at all the shit we have purchased! Oh, we have shit to show for it? Nevermind.
Sure we're $1.13T in credit card debt but look at the money we spend that goes off to other countries and never returns...oh wait, nevermind!
You're always so negative.

I hope I can retire...I really don't wanna die working here.... I know the feeling. If I can maintain for 5 years, I'm set. If I can maintain for 10 more years... I am comfortably set. But if I can make it another 15 years at this rate...my family will be set. And if by some miracle I can maintain this for 20 years... I'm having steak once a week when retired. As long as you are smart with your money and plan accordingly, you'll be in a much better place (usually). |
