The Matrix (1999) The seminal Sci-Fi that brough to the main stream the philosophy of life is a simulation. This also introduced the term of being "red-pilled" that is used very often in the past 10 years. I do say that I was not too crazy about the pacing at the first time watching back in the early 2000s, though do enjoy it very much, much more at every rewatch. Lots of action. Incredible visual effect, including the iconic Keanu Reeves bullet dodging scene. Kung fu was featured a lot. Kudo to the Hong Kong fight choreographer Woo-Ping Yuen. There is a much feel of Hong Kong crime drama action film. Even some of the gun fighting scene has the John Woo trademark. Still, I thought it is emotionally lacking, but it is one of the coolest film out there. Mad Max (1979) The movie that started a franchise. We will be getting the 5th entry this summer, so I like to revisit the older ones. I saw this once and don't remember much. Mel Gibson played a patrol for an outback highway. He messed with the wrong group which is going after him. You can feel the cheap quality low budget. Still, it was very well executed. Hugh Keays-Byrne stood out as the ring leader of the group. Devil in a Blue Dress (1995) A neo-noir mystery took place right after WWII. A veteran, played by Denzel Washington, got a job locating a missing woman, which got himself into hot mess. Washington at his usual best. Don Cheadle played his out-of-control sidekick. It is no Chinatown, but a worthy watch. Drag a bit at time. Good setting for the period.
