Up to 500 Serbian hooligans expected to target England’s first Euro 2024 game Exclusive: German police hope to intercept group before they can clash with England fans in Gelsenkirchen German police believe a squad of up to 500 Serbian hooligans will try to cause violence at England men’s first game at Euro 2024 on Sunday. Peter Both, the chief of police in Gelsenkirchen, said the challenge would be to intercept the group before they were able to clash with England fans in the west German city. England play Serbia on Sunday evening at 9pm local time (2000 BST) in the Veltins Arena, which is home to the Bundesliga 2 club Schalke. An estimated 40,000 English fans are expected to travel to the game along with between 5,000 and 8,000 Serbian supporters for what has been designated a “high-risk” tie by Uefa after consultation with the police in Germany, Serbia and the UK.… www.theguardian.com/football/article/2024/jun/10/serbian-hooligans-expected-target-england-first-euro-2024-game

I am putting my (entirely metaphorical) money on the semi-finals being Germany vs Netherlands France vs Croatia and France beating Germany in the final.

Anyone on this board going to Germany for the EURO 2024 ? Nah … I wouldn’t watch Scotland if they were playing a match in my own living room!

The Scotland fans facing a dilemma for the Germany match www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cv228ew9vvpoFor Scotland fans it does not get much better than the possibility, however remote, of upstaging the hosts in the opening match of Euro 2024. Yet for a small cohort Friday's game against Germany will not be a straightforward binary affair. Law student Alexander Kersting will be something of a walking contradiction in Munich as he sports a kilt and a Germany strip. Born in Munich to a Scottish mother, he has spent most of his life in Germany - apart from two months in Glasgow - lending his accent a distinctly Caledonian twang. Someone who could never be accused of being a glory hunter, Alexander has cheered on Scotland throughout their "euphoric" Euros qualifying campaign. Now he cannot wait for the showpiece match in Munich. "I’ve never really seen Scotland play a game this big," he told BBC Scotland News. "It’s the opening game in Germany, in my home town. It’s going to be pretty emotional." Alexander said he will have to wait until a ball is kicked to decide who he really wants to win. He added: "On the one hand, of course, it would be good for Germany to have the three points as they definitely have the better chance of winning the Euros. "On the other hand, Scotland can be proud of what they have achieved and they deserve to win as well, so I can’t make up my mind." …

For this tournament, supposedly the rule will be that only the captain may approach the ref to ask about decisions. Any other players complaining to the ref will be booked. Good news IF it'll actually be enforced; I've long hated the sight of teams crowding the ref as if they'll change the decision. Somehow, though, I bet we'll only see this in the group stage while it'll be abandoned later on as the games get more important.
What happens if a player already on a booking happens to complain about a non-call in a semi-final or the final? I seriously doubt a red would follow - refs are afraid to directly influence any games of real magnitude.

I do kind of hope, that we will get a surprise win as we did with Denmark in 1992 and Greece in 2004.

England? I was thinking of countries that never won any major tournament. Yes, sure, I would like to see England win. It might make up for the heartbreak of losing to Italy on penalties last time.

I always hope Italy or England win these things, but don't see it happening this year so going to pick Spain to triumph.
