I don't know about "saddest song", but these songs fit into a classification all by themselves
as songs that push people over the edge to the point where they just can't go on living.
Yes, the following songs really are that bad ass...
From least to worst:

You mean "Rocky" by Dickey Lee... No, it was Seasons in the Sun, Per Lynx's post. I first heard Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks when I was 8 years old, on a record album called "Solitary Dreams". Which is why I regard it as not all that, sure I was a little messed up about it at first but it wasn't by any means even one of the worst songs I had heard when I was a kid.
