If you divide 12 items by 3, if you divide 12 items into 3 equal parts, there are 4 items in each part.
If you divide 12 items by 6, if you divide 12 items into 6 equal parts, there are 2 items in each part.

You may not divide 12 items by zero, you cannot divide 12 items into zero equal parts. That is not division.

There is this though
If you multiply 12 items by 2, if you receive 12 items 2 times you have 24 items.
If you multiply 12 items by 3, if you receive 12 items 3 times you have 36 items.
If you multiply 12 items by 0, if you receive 12 items 0 times you have 0 items, because you received nothing.

A) You can receive a number of items zero times resulting in having nothing, B) but you may not divide any number of items into "zero" equal parts. It is not allowed because it makes no sense as we find here ...

12 ÷ 6 = 2
12 ÷ 4 = 3
12 ÷ 3 = 4
12 ÷ 2 = 6
12 ÷ 1 = 12

Notice that the fewer parts you make, the larger each part is. Zero being the smallest magnitude number of parts should therefore yield the largest size of "each" part. Yet 12 ÷ 0 is not infinity because infinity is not a quantity. Infinity is not used in algebra because it is not a quantity, it may not be manipulated algebraically. Furthermore 12 ÷ 0 is not 0 because the size of "each" part needs to get bigger, not suddenly and inexplicably go to zero.

If you try 12 ÷ 0 on a calculator it will call that an "error" because it can't say it's zero and it can't say it's infinity. Why again? Zero is inexplicably smaller and infinity is not a quantity.
