Not everyone in the diaspora was a politics board regular. The original imdb had thousands of people who never used those boards. I hardly ever used the politics board, mostly posted for films, TV, sport and random shit. |

I guess I generalized everyone, but meant everyone from the politics board obviously. Without that board at v2 it would have died a long time ago. I don't know if anyone remembers, but i originally brought up the idea of moving to proboards because i had an old one not being used, but then couldn't find it anymore. I didn't care where it was i just thought everyone would go to the same place at least and that a board member was the starter. The next thing you know this random group of people start plastering the v2 url all over imdb. It all seemed odd to me, the way they herded people onto that site.

But I think that's why they initially got large numbers of people to join. They weren't politics board regulars so they were willing to join the site of any random guy because, for most of them, all the new sites were by a random guy. Once it established itself as the one with the most users, the politics board regulars went there too. At the beginning, a lot (if not all) of them joined Monkey's first board but once it became clear imdb2 had the most people, they won. My point is they won because they got the most people who weren't politics board members. All of those people seem to have disappeared now. |
