He joined the ranks of actors to have played Jay Gatsby (here with Jeanne Crain as Daisy) in a 1956 episode of “Playhouse 90”. I'd love to see GATSBY. He was in a TV adaptation of THE SNOWS OF KILIMANJARO a couple of years later.

I remembered something else with Robert Ryan, he starred in Irving Berlin's last Broadway musical Mr. President 1962, I know I have it somewhere in my vinyl vaults. Maybe a little too much flag-waving for some...

Robert Ryan had the distinction of being in 'The Dirty Dozen' and 'The Wild Bunch', which is a bit like Charles Bronson and James Coburn both being in John Sturges' 'The Magnificent Seven' and 'The Great Escape' (Bronson also made 'The Dirty Dozen'). I suspect these were actors widely respected within the industry, by peers, mentors and students alike (and Ryan made Sturges' 'Bad Day At Black Rock').

His two giant classic films were undeniably "God's Little Acre" and "King of Kings". In 200 years, those will still be classics, if people still watch films.
"Day of the Outlaw" had one of the best endings ever in Westerns. Totally iconoclastic in the way the outlaws were defeated.
"On Dangerous Ground" saw his character make big changes. He did that in "Day of the Outlaw", too, and seemed to enjoy such roles IMO.
It is a struggle to get a top 10 with everything over 3/10 with most actors, but not with Robert Ryan. Maybe the best overall filmography of any actor, and he gets a TOP 20
